Alumnus Malik Lewis prepares for G-MAC Championships

Lewis prepares for the G-MAC Championships this Weekend

Malik Lewis, a sophomore from West Palm Beach, Fla., placed second overall at the All-Ohio Track and Field Champions track meet in held in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 12th. The Palm Beach Lakes Community High School graduate proved to be among the fastest runners in Ohio finishing with a run time of 14.63 seconds in the 110 hurdles. Lewis has been running track since his junior year in high school, and he placed 4th in nationals during his senior year.

Lewis transferred to Central State University from Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fla., during his freshman year.

“I was recruited to Central State University from a community college in Florida after sitting out a whole academic school year. I received a call from the head track coach about the opportunities available here and I couldn’t pass it up,” he said.

“Despite a hamstring injury that occurred midway through the indoor season, Malik Lewis is the first athlete to participate in a national championship since the mid-90’s, after qualifying for the NCAA Indoor National Championship this past March,” said CSU Track Coach James Rollins.

“He has recently hit the provisional outdoor national qualifying mark at the All-Ohio Invitational where he placed second in the 110 meter high hurdles. Malik is a quiet giant that leads by example and not with just words. He is an inspiration to his teammates both on and off the track. I look forward to seeing Malik reach his maximum potential because he has only scratched the surface this year,” Coach Rollins said.

Malik’s quest to lower his national qualifying time continues this weekend at the Great Midwest Athletic (GMAC) Conference Championship held at Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio and then to the world-renown Penn Relays on April 25th.
