Hello Fellow Fliers:
As the Easter Bunny can be seen at egg hunts and with the summer season of Memorial Day through Labor Day on the Jersey Shore a mere six weeks away, thoughts are turning to our annual Neptune High School Mini-Reunion. This year will mark the 45th anniversary of our graduation from Neptune High School that occurred on June 15, 1972.
This year’s reunion will be held on Saturday, August 12 beginning at 8:00 p.m. at Patrick’s Pub in the Neptune City Shopping Center at 116 Third Avenue, Neptune City, NJ immediately north of State Highway 35.
As long-time attendees know, the Reunion Committee has a stated goal of hosting the annual Mini-Reunion the first Saturday every August so there can be no confusion about when we’re getting together. For the past 10+ years Clancy’s in Neptune has hosted the event. Unfortunately, Clancy’s is no longer available for mini-reunions and Patrick’s Pub is unavailable on the first Saturday in August this year. So, we had to shift not only venues but move the date back one week. As of this writing our intent is to return to Patrick’s Pub in 2018 and beyond the first Saturday in August until 2022 when we’ll be celebrating our 50th Reunion on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at a venue to be determined and an informal gathering the night before on Friday, August 5 also at a venue to be determined, but likely Patrick’s Pub.
Also, we experimented with adding other classes to our mini-reunion. In 2015 we had a multi-class reunion that encompassed the classes of 1972 through 1976. Unfortunately it was so successful we had over 300 people attend the event which was well over capacity for the Dublin Room in Clancy’s. In 2016 we extended an invitation for the Class of ’73 to join us (the Class of ’71 celebrated their 45th reunion separately on another date). But the difficulty in getting an accurate head count for planning purposes was again an issue. The Reunion Committee has made the decision that going forward our annual mini-reunions will focus on the Class of ’72. With that said, we’re certainly not going to ask any Neptune High School graduate to leave our little soiree, but we’re also not extending a formal invitation. Patrick’s Pub does periodically host Neptune High School all-class reunions. Details of those events are posted to the Neptune High School Alumni Facebook page and elsewhere.
Neptune High School Class of ’72 Mini-Reunions are free to attend except for whatever food and drink you order. Current and former teachers, staff and administration are welcome to join us. Please feel free to extend an invitation to those folks as well.
Patrick’s Pub has asked that we provide them with an estimated attendance one week before the event. We’d also like to make nametags up for you in advance so please RSVP your intention to attend to Bill King II at BillKing@wi.rr.com. If you are bringing a spouse or guest, please include their name as well.
Our philosophy is that we’re our own best entertainment. So the more of us that get together, the better time we’ll all have.
You’re also free to put together any other events around the gathering at Patrick’s Pub. Typically several of us from the Class of ’72 will gather on the Ocean Grove beach due east of the Great Auditorium the day before and the day of the Mini-Reunion weather permitting. We have a black flag with a red “N” that flies over the area where we’ve set up our beach chairs. Golf outings are always popular and some of us from ’72 have even gone parasailing as a group out of the Shark River Inlet. Small groups have been known to gather at restaurants for dinner prior to the reunion.
