Reports of My Demise ...

I, Karen Parkes VanDeventer, Class of 1963, was quite surprised that I had been listed as deceased as our 50th Reunion approached. I am alive and well: graduated from Texas Tech in 1967 with degree in Music Education; have lived in Northern California since 1972 with my husband, Charles VanDeventer; retired from 45 years of teaching Orchestra and Chorus in 2013. Not bad for one who has passed on.

I was notified by a classmate of the erroneous report and quickly contacted reunion organizers to correct the mistake. Today I learned that in spite of my efforts, my name was announced as deceased at the reunion in 2013.

I hope some of my classmates read this. I was a very quiet shy girl … but not comatose! I currently am teaching private violin lesson and have founded a small business with my sister, Linda Parkes (Midland HS, Class of 1961) who lives in Odessa.
