Favorite School Memory Being chosen 1st Grade Queen in Ms. Garner's Class '59 before I moved to Rush Springs, OK - my 2nd Home. In Rush Springs, made lots of new friends, & Loved Mrs. McCroy, my teacher. Sharing the same Birthday with Mrs. Hyle in 2nd Grade & how she made each student feel special by letting them choose the color of th BIG Birthday Bow she tied to your chair for the day. Also, how she lined us up to leave the class room & I seemed to always be near Steve Floyd. (I had such a crush.)Transferring to Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri & going to school on a Military Base. Arrived to class with whistles from the boys upon entering class my 1st day! What an impression! I easily made lots more new friends, caught Mumps, later had a tonsilectomy, what a year! Falling on broken glass running across the playground to lunch - getting up with bleeding knees, I STILL got to the lunch room 1st! (Watching the Clock tick off seconds till 3 o'clock in Mrs. Fielder's 3rd Grade Class.) Mrs. Fielder's red rouge, and perfume - anyone else remember? Discussions with Mrs. Strange in 4th Grade. Great teacher. Everything about Mrs. Armena Taylor's 5th Grade Class. Learning more from Mrs. Davis in 6th Grade than any other Elementary Teacher - she was tough, but a real softy beneath the surface. She truly cared about Teaching & the students. Since I spent part of that year in Rush Springs again, that's saying something! Had great teachers in Rush Springs, OK, too. The HS basketball coach's wife taught 6th grade & she formed her own Basketball team so we all played for real! RS class, remember that? 7th Grade - Finally, getting to go to the other end of the long building for classes. It put a whole new prospective on things. (School was still 1st-12th in one building) Awaiting construction of the new elementary school. Short-lived - back to RS, OK. Lots of buildings, floors, & VENDING MACHINES even in Elementary! Why didn't Lavaca have any?? 8th grade mostly spent at my 2nd home - Rush Springs, OK. Enjoyed being with my RS friends, singing in a quartet, receiving HUGE Heart-shaped box of Chocolates (bigger than any other girl's) for Valentine's day. Gary Bratcher - thank you! Sorry, I had a crush on your brother, Lauren, you knew I liked older boys! 9th grade - got my first marriage proposal at 14! Jimmy really didn't want me to leave RSH. Semester break, back to LHS & crushes on new guys, one in particular. Smart thing I didn't except that proposal. Lo...(read more)
