If I told you what I did, I'd have to kill you! ;-) High security job: Top Secret Codeword clearance. I was a Portuguese and Spanish Interpreter. I was supposed to fly missions over Brazil, but got stuck listening to Cubans from our site in Homestead, FL. Extremely valuable and useful training for me, though. I have Cuban and Puerto Rican friends and, for instance, was able to have a nice friendly talk a couple of days ago with a Mexican immigrant who just happened to be at the restaurant I was having lunch in.

Johnny attended the U.S. Naval Academy then attended UWSM on Uncle Sam's dime as an Alaska WWAMI medical student. He then did general surgery internship and residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. After serving as ship's surgeon on the USS Ranger he served as a surgeon at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. He then did a colon and rectal surgery fellowship before serving as a teaching surgeon at Naval Hospital San Diego. He then transferred to Naval Hospital Bremerton as General Surgery Department Head until retirement in October 1999.

Entered the Navy in 1996 as a Seaman Recruit, attended Hospital Corps A School in San Diego and graduated in the fall of 1966 and was transferred to Naval Hospital Bremerton, Washington. Transferred in 1967 to the Naval Support Activity Hospital, Danang, RVN as the senior corpsman for the surgical ward and later as Petty Officer in Charge of Medical Evacuations. Completed subsequent tours in San Diego, Honolulu, Guam and was commission an Ensign, Medical Service Corps in 1972. Served in various positions including Medical Administrative Officer, USS KITTY HAWK (CV63) and Officer in Charge of Medical Services at the SeaBee Center, Gulfport, MS. Graduated from George Washington University in 1978 with BS and Drake University 1979 with MBA.

Our Lathrop High School military alumni are some of the most outstanding people we know and this page recognizes them and everything they have done!
