Raymond L. Kessler Scholarship It gives me great pleasure to announce the creation and registration of the Raymond L. Kessler Scholarship for Jefferson High School graduates. Little more than a month ago several people entered into a conversation about the impact our former principal had on us during our high school years. We remarked on the enormous task that was presented him; the development of staff, curriculum, student activities and all the details associated with kids swarming the halls to the echoes of bells and clanging locker doors. With only an inkling of the effort it must have really taken, we decided one way to honor Ray’s legacy at Jefferson was to insure his name became synonymous with scholarship for our former high school. This $10,000 award will be administered by Monroe County Community College (MCCC) and will continue over three years if necessary. The awarded student must be a graduating senior of Jefferson High School, make application through MCCC, have a 2.5 grade average at time of graduation and carry at least 9 credit hours per semester, maintaining that same grade point over the life of the scholarship. This generous scholarship will be weighted to students demonstrating financial need and will cover tuition, books and fees. Our intention is to not only put in place the scholarship with Ray’s name at the forefront, but to insure that at least one student every year, who might not otherwise attend college, be afforded the opportunity of higher learning. The entire Kessler family is honored and deeply grateful for the appreciation shown through the development of the scholarship. Please join the rest of the Jefferson High School alumni in honoring Ray Kessler. This award will be funded entirely through contributions by alumni, donations by businesses and associations familiar with the part Ray Kessler played in generations of students at Jefferson High School. We will be sending out notifications regarding contributions and donations and hope you will join us by helping this scholarship indicate how very much we appreciate our former principal. Make your donation to: The Foundation at MCCC, 1555 S. Raisinville Rd., Monroe, MI 48161. On the memo line of the check write: Kessler Scholarship
I have made a donation. So have many Class of 1968 alums. Please join us in both honoring this great man and helping a deserving JHS grad.
