After graduation JMHS, worked as Bank Bookeeper. We saw WWII on the horizon and I decided that I wanted to be a US Army Air Corps Pilot. Did not have the required College Credits so I took an Exam and Qualified to Enter Aviation Cadets. Trained at Bases in California and Comissioned 2nd Lt and Pilot in 1943. assigned a B 17 Crew, Trained and shipped overseas to the 8th Air Force in England. Flew my Tour (31 Missions) without injury or mishap. I was one of the lucky ones.Made deep penetrations into Germany against targets in Berlin, Munich, Breman, Hamburg and some heavily defended targets in the industrial Ruhr Valley. Did two missions on D Day. We in the Eight Won the war.

Note:
" In the spring of 1944...we were masters in the air. The bitterness of the struggle was a greater strain on the Luftwaffe than it was able to bear...
For our Air Superiority, which by the end of 1944 was to become Air Supremacy, full tribute must be paid to the United States Eighth Air Force."
Winston Chuechill, Closing The Ring.

"The Eighth Air Forcewas one of the great fighting forces in the history of warfare. It had the best equipment and the best men, all but a handful of whom were civilian Americans, educated and willing to fight for their country and a cause they understood was in danger--Freedom. Itswhat made WWII so special."
Andy Rooney.... My WAR.
I returned To the US in july 1944 and worked at Air Force jobs, both i n Air Venues and in staff and management roles. Flew Cargo Planes on the Berlin Airlift and was Commissioned in the Regular Air Force.
Obtained A Degree from the University Of Maryland, Graduated from the USAF Command and Staff College and had other superb educational experiences over my Career.I Was a B 47 Pilot Instructor, B 52 Aircraft Commandr, Squadron Commander and a tremendous variety if other interesting work. Retired in 1970 and worked in Aviation for the Commonwealth of Virginia (Served as Pilot for the Governor and High Ranking State and Federal Officials.)
