About Me	Willie Iles was named national director of Government and Community Relations, Boy Scouts of America, effective August 12, 2008. He is responsible for managing the functions and giving leadership as the liaison to the Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America in working with the executive branch of the federal government and national community organization in the area of child advocacy, environment awareness, work force preparedness, childhood healthy living, education outreach and volunteerism. He works closely with the National Boy Scouts of America leadership team to coordinate the Report to the Nation, Report to the State, and community organization initiatives in order to reconnect with families and youth in America. Since March 2002, he served as national group director, Development & Strategic Initiatives, giving leadership to the Marketing & Communication Division, Crisis Communications, Research Services, Scoutreach Division, Finance Support Division, National Scouting Museum, Legislative Affairs, and the Learning for Life program, an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Iles has been active in Scouting since his youth. He began his Scouting career in 1971 as a local council employee in Houston, Texas. While in Houston, he was promoted to Exploring executive in 1974, senior district executive/multiple person in 1977, district director in 1983, director of Exploring in 1984, field director in 1987, and director of field service in 1991. In 1995, he became Chief Executive Officer for the Southeast Louisiana Area Council in Metairie, Louisiana. In 1999, he joined the Southern Region as assistant regional director/operations. In 2001, he became the deputy regional director/operations, Southern Region, which comprises of 13 states and 95 councils. In January 2002, Mr. Iles joined the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America as the director of the Development & Strategic Initiatives Group before assuming his present assignment. Activities and Affiliations Mr. Iles has maintained an active role in business, church, social, civic, and service organizations, and has served as an officer and director in most, notably past member, Georgia State Steering Committee for Character Education; past state chairman, Louisiana Serve Commission; past member, Baptist Community Ministries Foundation, New Orleans, La; past president, Julia C. Hester House, Houston; past vice president, Jack Yates National Alumni Association, Houston; past vice president, Council of United Way Agencies Executives, New Orleans; and past national chairman, Frontiers International Foundation, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is an active member of the American Marketing Association, Chicago, Illinois; advisory board member American Society of Association Executives, Washington, D.C.; member Council of Foundations, Washington, D.C.; member National Human Services Assembly, Washington, D.C.; member Independent Sector, Washington, D.C.; member Black History Makers, Chicago; advisory board member Frost Bank, Houston; member Coalition for Juvenile Justice; member Southern Christian Leadership Conference; Life member NAACP; member Jack Yates Sr. High Alumni in Houston; and member Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Awards Mr. Iles has been recognized with the following awards: Houston Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award; Outstanding Young Men of America Award; Young Black Achievers Award; NAACP W.E.B.
