Jo Helen Umphenour

Army, 20+ Years
Jo Helen joined the Army Nurse Corps after Nurses' Training and, following Basic Training at Ft. Sam Houston, TX, was assigned as a staff nurse at the hospital at Ft. Bragg, NC. During her 20 year career, her assignments included, Orleans, France, Aurora, CO, Tacoma, WA, Honolulu, HI, and Augusta, GA. She obtained both her BSN at Loretto Heights College, Denver, CO and her MSN at the University of Colorado, Denver, CO while on active duty. She retired in 1980 as a Lt. Colonel.

Martha Ann (Umphenour) Rooney

Army, 3 Years
Martha served in the Army Nurse Corps from 1960 -1963. Following Basic Training at Ft. Sam Houston, TX, she was assigned as a Staff Nurse at the Fort Bragg Army Hospital, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She met and married her husband, Martin Rooney at Fort Bragg and, upon completion of her tour of duty, was honorable discharged from the Army Nurse Corps and moved to New York City with her husband.
