Enlisted March 1980, shipped to Basic Training Aug 1980. First duty assignment, Fort Riley KS, then to Bad Hersfeld FRG. Reassigned to Fort Hood Tx, reassigned to Frankfurt FRG then back to Fort Hood. Joined the Kansas Army National guard, selected for an Active Guard postion.

William served as a US Marine in the US Marine Corps Band stationed at Pearl Harbor HI. William enlisted in the delayed enlistment program on October 17, 1983 and left for basic training on August 19, 1984. William left active service on August 19, 1988 and joined the US Army Reserve in Minnesota.
