Cindy Armock (Wright)

Class of 1975

CYNTHIA (CINDY) WRIGHT

May 2004 - Cindy Wright is a major in the United States Air Force (USAF) Nurse Corp. She has been in the Air Force for twelve years and has been a member of the White House Medical Unit for nearly six years, providing care for two Presidents. Her current position is “Nurse to the President”. In this capacity, she directly supports and cares for the President and Vice President of the United States and their families.

Cindy was born and raised in Chippewa Lake, Michigan, and graduated from Chippewa Hills High School in 1975. She attended Ferris State College, from which she obtained her associate degree in Nursing in 1978. Her nursing career took her first to Lansing, Michigan, where she worked in pediatrics for three years. She then moved to a small hospital in Tawas, Michigan, where she worked in a variety of nursing positions. After eleven years of nursing, she returned to school and completed her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Michigan–Flint in 1991. Looking for new adventures and opportunities, her life took an unanticipated turn, and she joined the Air Force in 1991. Her first assignment kept her close to home in Oscoda, Michigan for eighteen months at which time she transferred to Travis Air Force Base, in California. In 1998 her educational goal was achieved as she completed a master’s degree in Critical Care and Trauma Nursing at University of Maryland–Baltimore. She is now a certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

Cindy’s military career opened a wide horizon of opportunities, including hyperbaric and flight nurse training; managing a MASH emergency room during a six-month deployment with the United Nations Peacekeeping forces in Zagreb, Croatia; and her greatest honor, serving two Presidents. Major Wright’s distinguished achievements were clearly recognized when she was selected for the Hewitt Packard Trauma award, Company Grade Nurse Officer of the Year (Air Mobility Command), and the elite Juanita Redmond Award (Air Force Association).
In February of this past year, Major Wright was selected to join another elite corp. She was identified as belonging to the top 2.5% of the Air Force Nurse Corp when selected for lieutenant colonel – two years ahead of schedule. She will be promoted to lieutenant colonel this August.

Cindy and her husband Jim, a retired Air Force navigator, reside in Landover, Maryland. They are active in their church at Andrews Air Force Base and enjoy running together in their off time.
