Bruce A. Gragert Class of 1988
Navy, 12 Years Lieutenant Commander Gragert was born and raised in Albion, Nebraska. Upon graduation from high school in 1988, he attended Hastings College, where he played football, and later the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science in 1992. He then received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1996 from Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a member of the Nebraska State Bar and admitted to practice law before the Nebraska Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska. LCDR Gragert was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve in March 1996. He graduated from Officer Indoctrination School in October 1996. After graduation with honors from Naval Justice School, Newport, Rhode Island in December 1996, he reported for duty to Naval Legal Service Office Detachment, Lemoore, California in January 1997, where he served as a Defense Counsel, Legal Assistance Officer, Claims Officer, and Tax Officer. He published an article on Japanese Organized Crime in the Fall 1997 issue of Golden Gate University School of Law’s Annual Survey of International and Comparative Law. In July of 1998, he reported for duty to U.S. Naval Security Group Activity, Misawa, Japan, where he served as the Staff Judge Advocate and Command Support Department Head. In July of 2001, he reported for duty to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington, where he served as the Staff Judge Advocate. In August 2004, he reported for duty to Trial Service Office Southeast, Detachment Pensacola, where he served as the Officer in Charge. In July 2006, he reported for duty to USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69), where he served as the Command Judge Advocate and deployed on an eight-month combat deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism. In October 2008, LCDR Gragert reported for duty as an Individual Augmentee to Multi-National Corps Iraq, where he is currently serving as the Chief Legal Advisor on Detention Operations. LCDR Gragert is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star, and various other medals and ribbons.

Joseph A. Mortensen Class of 1975
Marine Corps, 20+ Years Colonel Mortensen was commissioned in the Marine Corps in 1980 through the Navy ROTC program at the University of Nebraska where he earned a BS degree in Engineering. After his designation as a Naval Aviator in 1984 he flew F- 4 and F/A-18 aircraft from land bases and aircraft carriers during multiple deployments around the world. He has logged more than 3,700 flight hours in 66 different aircraft. Colonel Mortensen is a 1993 graduate of the U. S. Naval Test Pilot School and subsequently served as an F/A-18 and lead T-45 test pilot in the Strike Aircraft Test Directorate. He flew high angle-of-attack, carrier suitability, stores compatibility, loads, and flying qualities and performance test flights. Following an operational assignment Colonel Mortensen became Chief Test Pilot of Air Test & Evaluation Squadron 23 (VX-23) in 2000. He assumed command of the squadron a year later until 2003. During this tour he provided oversight of flight test of strike aircraft and conducted and led the VX-23 team to successful F/A-18, EA-6B, T-45 and X-31 flight test and Joint Strike Fighter (X-32 & X-35) Concept demonstration support. Prior to returning to Patuxent River, Maryland in 2005, Colonel Mortensen served as Assistant Chief of Staff G-5 (Plans & Policy), III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa Japan. He was also the Chief of Plans & Assessment (J-5) for Joint Task Force 536 during Operation Unified Assistance in support of the Southeast Asia tsunami disaster relief. Colonel Mortensen is currently serving, since October 2005, as Commander, Naval Test Wing Atlantic at Patuxent River, Maryland. He is also the Senior Member of Naval Air Systems Command Technical Assurance Board, and Deputy Director for Integration Systems Evaluation Experimentation & Test Department and Deputy Assistant Commander for Test & Evaluation Naval Air Systems Command.
