William (Travis) Grubb is hosting an Open Barn for folks traveling to town and local alum from any class (especially those within a few years of our 1998 graduation year). This is in addition to the official reunion at The Lyric - PLEASE PURCHASE Tickets and come to the Lyric! Swing by Paris Mountain Stables for lunch before the Lyric or head out after (around 6:00) for a barbecue. RSVP so we know how much food to put on the grill. Locals - bring a side or dessert if you can. Also, kids are more than welcome - beautiful location, fishing pond, horses to see (and maybe ride a pony). Bonfire will light up at 8:00pm. This is a sunny event only / will be cancelled if it rains. Family friendly. BYOB. RSVP and bring a little cash to throw in the BBQ donation hat. Thanks everyone!!

Friday, October 10th 4:30 p.m.: Gather at Blacksburg High School located at 3401 Bruin Lane, Blacksburg, VA for HOMECOMING! BHS will be playing Hidden Valley High School from Roanoke. Travel out Prices Fork Road where you will pass Kipps Elementary and Blacksburg Middle School on your left. When you pass Blacksburg Middle School turn left on Bruin Lane. We will have a gathering starting at 4:30 pm - - LOOK FOR THE BANNER. Football game starts at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $6.00/person and can be purchased as you enter the gate. We will do our best to get a section “reserved” for the Class of 1974 so it would be great if we could all be in the stands by 6:30 pm. The Class of 1979 will also be gathering at the game so it will be a lively evening. We will send you information via email about the events that the Touchdown Club has in store and we are also working on arranging for a tour of the new Blacksburg High School facility for Saturday morning at 10 am. We are working with High Peak Sportswear in Blacksburg to order sweatshirts and other items adorned with the BHS Indian - - this information will also be shared via email and Facebook.

The BHS Class of 1974 40th Reunion will be held on the weekend of October 10 - 12. A block of rooms will be available at the Marriott Courtyard on Main Street for $99. At this time I do not know how many rooms are in that block. This is not a VT football weekend so there will be no problem finding a room in the area.
Friday night October 10: BHS Homecoming game at the new Blacksburg High School football field on Price's Fork Road. There is a catered tailgate event sponsored by the athletic foundation at BHS prior to the football game if you want to arrive early to gather with friends. We have identified a local retailer who may be able to provide BHS Indian gear to order online so that you can sport your Indian heritage at homecoming! We are checking on any particular donation needs that BHS has at this time so that we can explore giving the school a gift from the Class of 1974.
Saturday: There are a variety of activities that are in the planning stage. A picnic at the Hand in Hand Park off Giles Road and/or a picnic and hike to Cascades. All of this hinges on availability of a shelter at the park and the weather and the number of people interested in one activity over another. We are looking into scheduling a round of golf at the Blacksburg Country Club too. Alternatively, for those interested in other local activities, Chateau Morrisette's Annual Wine and Beach Music Festival is over in Floyd County from 11 am - 5 pm. The Craftsman Classic Arts & Crafts Festival is at the Roanoke Civic Center October 10 - 12 so you can go Christmas shopping if you like! If any other events are scheduled locally we will make you aware of them.
Saturday night: Reunion party at Blacksburg Country Club beginning at 7 pm. We will have a professional group photo taken at this event. Music will be provided by anyone with an iPhone or iPad with downloaded 60s/70s music (or whatever else ya'll want to listen to). This has worked well with past reunions to have the music piped in through the PA system. Having a DJ will add to the price of the reunion and was thought to be unnecessary.
Sunday: There are a number of places in the area where people can meet to have brunch on their own. If there is enough interest, we can try to reserve a banquet room at Preston's Restaurant at the Inn at Virginia Tech for people to gather and attend the buffet brunch. If not, then its an opportunity to have a more intimate smaller gathering with friends on your own.
Our next planning committee meeting is April 12th at 6pm in Cambria at Amelia's Restaurant. Following that meeting the information packet will be sent out to everyone. Between now and then we will be trying to get addresses and contact information for the remainder of the classmates that we have lost touch with.
At this time we do not have a grasp on how much the reunion will cost per person. If there is anyone who wants to attend the reunion and cannot afford the cost of the events that we have planned, please let me know because we can help with that.
So - - Look for information in the mail within the month after we meet on April 12th.

35th High School Reunion August 7 – 9, 2009 Friday, August 7, 2009 5:30 p.m.: Gather on Henderson Lawn downtown up on the hill across from the Lyric Theater by the giant town Christmas Tree. Look for the BHS Indians banner! This is the first full day of the Steppin’ Out festival so come early and enjoy the music, food, and vendors then stay late to visit with all of your classmates! Saturday, August 8, 2009 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.: Picnic lunch downtown in the Blacksburg United Methodist Church’s Whisner Building located at 111 Church Street, SE. Hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixin’s. This central location will be one block from all the festivities at Steppin’ Out. Bring the family! This is an alcohol free event. $10.00 per person. Saturday, August 8, 2009 6 p.m. – 11 p.m.: Evening social – Professional Catering, Inc. Banquet Hall located at 913 Heathwood Blvd. in the Hethwood Square Shopping Center (across from the Blacksburg Fire Station on Prices Fork Road). John Cline will come at 6:30 p.m. to take a group photo. He will return by 9:30 p.m. with copies of the photo for you to purchase. Buffet dinner with cash bar. $25.00 per person (this does not include the cost of the group photo). Sunday, August 9, 2009: Reconnect with your friends, on your own, at any of the great local establishments serving breakfast or brunch before you leave to go home! What a wonderful way to end a celebration weekend!
