About Leon Michael Muff passed away on Sept. 15, 2018, at the age of 71.

Leon was born and raised in Crete, Neb. by his parents Elizabeth & Donald Muff. He was the second youngest of their five children.

He graduated from Crete High School in 1965. He received a scholarship to attend and play football (tight end) at Northwest Missouri State. He was a 3-sport letterman (football, basketball and baseball) in college and graduated in 1969.

He began his teaching and coaching career at Zion-Benton Township High School in 1969. During his tenure at Zion, he taught biology and physical education before becoming a Dean of Students. While doing this he also completed his Masters Degree from Roosevelt University in 1983.

Leon was a prolific coach at Zion-Benton. Throughout his career he coached baseball, football, basketball, and most notably, track and field. From his time and tenure coaching he impacted the lives of many of his athletes and for his efforts, he was inducted into the Zion-Benton Athletic Wall of Achievement, the Crete High School Hall of Fame, and Lake County High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Leon had been retired for over a decade and you could usually find him working on his golf game or spending time with his wife, Robyn, of 33 years. Leon and Robyn traveled together often as they worked toward playing golf in all 50 states. When they weren't traveling they were often watching their grandchildren, Connor and Kennedy, compete in volleyball.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Donald Muff; and his ex-spouse Veronica Hansan. He is survived by his wife, Robyn Muff; his two sons, David Muff, and Michael (Rebecca) Muff; 2 grandchildren, Connor and Kennedy; his, brothers Donald and Larry; and sisters Betty and Barbara.
