My alumnus story is about courage, adversity and success. It is about one man's tenacious drive and unflappable perseverance to overcome childhood deafness to become a successful international and corporate attorney. From the very first to the last day of school at YVHS, there was a spirit of achievement, albeit sports or scholar. Mix this with the parental forebearance of higher education, subsequently yielding a person and product that any school, in any local, would be proud. But the true test of ones metal is cicumventing defeat or its adversity. Being near deaf since birth, neither deterred nor sidelined the verve that emboldened this individual to greatness. Having spent the better part of two decades in the Beijing, China as an international expert in corporate law, James M. Zimmerman, ('76) has edited numerous books and recently released the third edition of the text "China Law," the authoritative legal reference in Chinese business law. I am ever so proud to submit this brief synopsis on behalf of my brother and his story of personal courage and the successes that follow hard work and determination.
