About Floyd Skelly, 84, of Ruffsdale, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, in Excela Health Hospice Center, Jeannette. Born May 3, 1924, in Yukon, he was a son of the late Nick and Adeline Louisa Valla Scalzetti. Floyd was a graduate of South Huntingdon High School Class of 1942. He was a veteran of the Army, having served in World War II with the 155th Field Artillery Unit with active combat in the Pacific Theater. After returning for the service, he went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and, soon after, acquired his master's degree in education and administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He taught school in the area of what is now Yough School District. Later, he became Yough's elementary supervisor and served in the position until his retirement in 1990. After his retirement, Mr. Skelly maintained an active lifestyle. He was a member of Seven Dolors Roman Catholic Church, Yukon, and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3026 of Belle Vernon. Surviving are Julia Skelly; and their five children, Dr. Guy Skelly and his wife, Mary, of West Newton, Lois Robinson, of Greensburgh, Robert Skelly and his wife, Karen, of New Freedom, Pa., Thomas J. Skelly, of Ruffsdale, and Jane Helen Keeports and her husband, Darryl, of Landenberg; six grandchildren, Sara, Caitlin, Thomas E. and Susan Skelly and Allison and Aaron Keeports; a sister, Irene Shott, of Ruffsdale; and a brother, James Skelly and his wife, Rhonda, of Greensburg. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Seven Dolors Roman Catholic Church, Yukon, with Father John Harrold as celebrant. Interment will follow in Seven Dolors Church Cemetery, South Huntingdon Township, with full military honors accorded by the Armbrust Veterans.
