About	Obituary for Steven D. Kidd Steven David Kidd, 62, of Farmington Hills, died unexpectedly Friday night, Sept.16 after a six year battle with renal cancer. Steve was born April 9,1954, in Richmond, VA, the son of Joseph and Wanda Kidd. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Cynthia (Luke); his cherished children Garrett and Madeline; his devoted brothers Frank (Janet), Mark and Michael (Marilyn); as well as eight nephews and a great-niece. Despite his long fight with cancer, Steve never gave up, always keeping a positive eye to the future. His ever-optimistic attitude helped to calm the concerns of his family and friends, and he maintained a good spirit despite any discomfort. Steve began his career as an Art Director at W.B. Doner in 1977, and was instrumental in creating some of Detroit’s best known TV commercials including spots for Highland Appliance, Sports Authority, Chiquita and Faygo. Perhaps best known is the iconic Detroit Zoo commercial featuring talking zoo animals excitedly getting ready for the gates to open, for which he received a Clio Award. In addition to this honor, he received numerous other awards and recognitions for TV and Print advertising. More importantly, Steve was a mentor to many in the advertising community by guiding and inspiring dozens of young (and old!) art directors at the agencies where he worked. Steve was trained as an artist and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1976. He had a great appreciation of art, was an enthusiastic music lover, an avid Detroit Tigers fan, loved playing golf, and doted on the family dog Henry and cat Dannie-girl. He enjoyed being outdoors and was active in Boy Scouts of America as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee Member. Although the weather during campouts did not always accommodate, Steve always made the best of it, keeping a confident smile and an encouraging word at the ready. His positive attitude kept the troop’s spirits high, whatever the adverse conditions. Steve will be missed by all who knew him. Interned at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
