Service description Took ROTC at UC Davis, graduated 1967 and commissioned Regular Army as an Infantry Second Lieutenant. Served in USA & Vietnam as Infantry Officer, then transferred to Military Intelligence, serving later in Vietnam and Germany. Became an Army Foreign Area Officer specializing in Russian language and Soviet affairs. Spent 14 & 1/2 years overseas, including 18 months in Vietnam and 13 years in Germany, including 3 years in the German Democratic Republic while assigned to the US Military Liaison Mission to Soviet forces in (East) Germany. Retired in 1997, as a Colonel, after serving on the US Army War College faculty for a total of nearly 5 years. Then hired as a civilian faculty member, serving for another nearly 11 years. Picture submitted is from Vietnam service in 1st Cavalry Division, as Company Commander in 1st Bn, 5th Cavalry. Awards include: Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Legion of Merit, and Defense Superior Service Medal, among others. |
