ALEXANDRIA, Va. - CMSgt Dana L. Steinhauser, U.S. Air Force (Ret.) 58, of Alexandria, VA, died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
A native of Circleville, OH, he considered Winter Haven his home and was a 1970 graduate of W.H.H.S.
He served 25 years with the U.S. Air Force Band and "The Singing Sergeants", retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He performed for many Presidents and entertained numerous Heads of State, World Leaders, and celebrities. With his distinctive speaking voice, Dana was chosen to emcee the U.S. Air Force Band's performances and will be forever remembered as the "Voice of the Air Force" as he represented the U.S. Air Force for radio and television audiences worldwide.
He was preceded in death by his father Marion Steinhauser. He is survived by his mother Gretchen Steinhauser; two brothers, Larry Steinhauser (Charlene) Haines City, Robert Steinhauser, Orlando, FL; and two sisters Linda Walker (Bob) Polk City, FL, Peggy Connolly, Pompano Beach, FL.
He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews & friends.
A memorial service is being planned for Mon., Jan. 24 at 4:30 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church of Winter Haven with burial at a later date at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
Memorial contributions can be made to Wedgewood Assisted Living of Winter Haven, the Good Shepherd Hospice of Auburndale, or the American Cancer Society .
