About Wilbur was born in Waterville on April 10, 1906. He was the son of Ernest and Ethel (Wotton) Taylor. His family moved to Winslow about 1912 and he resided in Winslow until his death, July 5, 1981. He graduated from WHS in the class of 1924, attended Higgins Classical Institute and Colby College. %u201CGrub%u201D as he was know to most folks had a keen interest in sports and while at WHS played on the school%u2019s first football team as well as on the baseball and basketball teams. His interest in sports continued through his entire life. He was a qualified baseball umpire and umpired many high school games. He also umpired at Colby frequently. He bowled during the winter, played golf nearly every day during the summer and iced fished when ever he could. He started work at the Hollingsworth and Whitney paper mill in Winslow in 1929. He worked there for the next forty years. He was very proud that during his years there he missed only one half day%u2019s work and that was for surgery. He also served as an auxiliary police officer in Winslow during the 30%u2019s, 40%u2019s and 50%u2019s.
He married Phyllis Morrell (WHS %u201923) on Dec 8, 1933 in Winslow.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Russell, and survived by his wife Phyllis (WHS %u201923), son Douglas (WHS %u201959) a daughter Carlene (WHS%u201949) a brother Charles (WHS 27) a sister Marjorie, five grand children and six great grand children
