Three Palatine teenagers were killed late Saturday on a rural highway when their car was struck at an intersection by an alleged drunken driver who ignored a flashing red stoplight, the Kane County sheriff`s office said Sunday.

The three-a freshman at Northern Illinois University, his girlfriend and her cousin-were in a Toyota Celica driving south on Ill. Hwy. 47 when an Oldsmobile Delta 88 driven by Curtis Madsen, 23, of Glen Ellyn, west on Ill. Hwy. 38 went through a red warning signal and struck their car, the sheriff`s office said.

The three were thrown from the car by the force of the crash at the intersection just north of Elburn, a small farming community in Kane County.

The victims were identified by the sheriff`s office as Robert Ambos, 18, of 347 W. Glade Rd., a freshman at NIU; Denise Klaczek, 17, of 2200 W. Sunset Dr., his girlfriend and a senior at Fremd High School, Palatine; and Terese Neyfeldt, 17, of 826 W. Gilbert St., her cousin and also a senior at Fremd.
