Sam Mewis, born Samantha June Mewis on October 9, 1992, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, is an accomplished American soccer player known for her strategic prowess in the midfielder position. Before her professional journey, she grew up in Hanson, Massachusetts, and attended Whitman-Hanson Regional High School. Showcasing an early flair for the sport, she scored an impressive 77 goals and served 34 assists during her time there. In addition, she twice earned Parade All-American honors and was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's national player of the year in 2010.

She began her club career in 2013 with the Pali Blues, with whom she played 10 games and scored a goal. Following this, she was a part of the Western New York Flash from 2015 to 2016 and played 34 games, during which she scored 9 goals. Her next journey came with the North Carolina Courage where she played 53 games from 2017 to 2020 and scored 11 goals. She briefly moved to Manchester City in 2020-2021, where she played 17 games and scored 7 goals, before returning to the North Carolina Courage in 2021. As of 2022, she has been playing for Kansas City Current.

Internationally, Mewis has been a part of the United States women's national team since 2014, and her record stands at 83 appearances with 24 goals up until August 2021. She also played for the United States U-17 (2008), U-20 (2010-2012), and U-23 (2013-2015) teams, where she made a total of 52 appearances and scored 18 goals. Her participation in worldwide competitions brought recognition and victories, including the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2018 CONCACAF Women's Championship.

Off the field, her academic pursuit led her to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), where she played college soccer for the UCLA Bruins. Posting impressive stats, she scored 31 goals in 87 appearances from 2011 to 2014.
