Murray also attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she was completing her junior year as a nursing student when she vanished.

Her earlier education saw her accepted into the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, where she spent three semesters studying chemical engineering before transferring to the University of Massachusetts to focus on nursing.
