MESSAGE FROM SHIRLEY ROSE-GILLIAM NEW PRINCIPAL
MESSAGE FROM NEW PRINCIPAL
Good Morning Fellow Wheatley Wildcats!
My name is Shirley Rose-Gilliam and I am elated to join the Phillis Wheatley High School Staff! I am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you in the days to come. I am also thrilled to be a part of the Houston Independent School District and consider it a privilege to have an
opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children.
I will work with you in a collaborative and transparent manner as we address the things that concern you and areas of needed improvement. It is important that we are able to develop a culture of trust and honest communication as we strive to achieve the best results for each student attending Wheatley High School. Meaning, we strive to provide a safe and secure learning environment including learning opportunities which will enable each student to graduate from Wheatley HS prepared for success in his/her chosen career.
I come to you as a "seasoned" principal with 15 years of administrative experience. I am well aware of the challenges we face, and together we will develop a plan for excellence. My motto is "Believe in the Possibilities!"
I truly believe that all things are possible if we believe and stay the course. I am a disciplinarian and a structured leader. In the days and weeks to come, I plan to meet with you to listen to concerns and ideas to excel.
While I have heard many positive stories about our staff and students, I have also heard concerns about various aspects of operations. It is clear that Wheatley High School mirrors other schools placed at-risk in Texas - we are doing many good things to help students succeed, and we have opportunities for improvement - opportunities that I personally look forward to working with the staff to achieve.
We are turning the page to begin a new chapter in the history of Phillis Wheatley High School home of the Wildcats! I look forward to the fun we will have as we work together on behalf of each child in this community!
I can be reached on my cell or by email. My cell number is 281-799-5065 and my email address is <mailto:jshirley9@gmail.com> jshirley9@gmail.com (until I receive my HISD email!)
Looking forward to an amazing partnership, Shirley
