Kevin Plawecki, born on February 26, 1991, in Hinsdale, Illinois, is a well-known American professional baseball player who has had quite a diverse and successful career. A free agent, Kevin Plawecki has notably played as a catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) for several teams including the New York Mets from 2015 to 2018, Cleveland Indians in 2019, Boston Red Sox during 2020 to 2022, and the Texas Rangers in 2022.

Before shining in the professional leagues, Plawecki showcased his talent at Westfield High School in Indiana and then attended Purdue University where his career began taking off. He played college baseball for the Boilermakers, attaining the status of an All-American in 2012, and won the Big Ten Conference Baseball Player of the Year that same year. His high school baseball prowess earned him an All-State Class 4A honorable mention for the catcher position in his senior year.

During his freshman year at Purdue, Plawecki had an impressive .343 batting average, a .384 on-base percentage (OBP), and a .529 SLG, recording eight home runs. His remarkable performance led to him being named a freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger and the Big Ten Conference (Big Ten) All-Freshman of the Team. In his sophomore year, he maintained a strong performance, batting .341 with a .436 SLG and recording 2 home runs alongside 39 RBIs. Consequently, he earned a spot on the first team of All-Big Ten. At the end of his impressive junior year, he was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2012 Big Ten Conference Baseball Tournament and was also the Big Ten Conference Baseball Player of the Year for 2012.

In the professional circuit, Plawecki continued to shine. As of the end of the 2022 season, he had recorded a .235 batting average, 22 home runs, and 137 runs batted in. He was drafted by the New York Mets with the 35th overall pick in the 2012 MLB draft.
