About Bobby Dean Marcum, age 75, of Monticello, Kentucky passed away at Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, KY on January 8, 2024, with family by his side.

Bob was born February 20th, 1948, in the Murl community of Wayne County, Kentucky. He was the middle child of seven born to Riley C. and Nora F. (Bates) Marcum.

Bob is survived by his three children: daughter, Katrina Marcum Troxell of Monticello; son, Greyson Marcum of Danville, Kentucky; and daughter, Rianne Marcum Gebhardt and her husband Brandt of Bexley, Ohio; by his four grandchildren, James “JT” Troxell and his wife, Tori, Sarah Troxell, Lillian, and Isabel Gebhardt; two sisters, Ora Jane Marcum Wilson (Jim), and Cynthia Marcum Sanders; three brothers, Riley W. “Bill” Marcum (Ruth), John Marcum (Donna), and Roger Marcum.

14 nieces and nephews also survive him; Jacquita Upchurch Lanman (Patrick), Gregory Upchurch (Darlene), Scott Wilson, Lisa Wilson King (Scott), Timothy Marcum (Angie), Douglas Marcum (April), Sherri Eakin (Jonathan), Pamela Gooch (Billy), Bryan Sanders, Brandon Sanders (Kendra), Eric Sanders (Kim), Nolan Sanders (Myranda), Joseph Marcum (Jamie), and Adam Marcum (Cassy); as well as many great and great-great grand nieces and nephews; cousins, close military, and high school friends; and special friends and neighbors.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Riley C. Marcum, who passed away on October 13th, 1999; his mother, Nora F. (Bates) Marcum, who passed on October 1st, 2005; his son-in-law, James Troxell, who passed away on December 11th, 2014; his sister, Mary Marcum Upchurch, who passed away on January 17th, 1973; and by his brother-in-law, Clayton Upchurch, who passed away on August 1st, 1994.

Bob graduated from Wayne County High School in 1966 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in September of 1966. He served in Vietnam and was a D Troop 3/17 Air Calvary member- “The Blue Tigers”. He was baptized in a swimming pool while serving in Vietnam. He served for two years earning several medals and awards and was honorably discharged in September of 1968. While serving his country he made many lifelong friends, several of whom he remained in contact with over the years.

He attended trade school, and became a Tool & Die Maker, having a career that spanned over 30 years.

Bob lived most of his adult life in the Danville, Kentucky area. In 2022 he moved back to Wayne County, purchasing his parents’ old home place. He lived there as long as his health permitted, recently selling it to family and moving into Monticello.

Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and with God, he will rest in peace.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 14, 2024, between 11 am – 5 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 5 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, at 12:30 pm.

Family was very important to Bob and had suggested that in lieu of flowers, he would like you to enjoy a special dinner or time with your family. Contributions are also suggested to the DAV.
