Louis "Gene" Mayer was born October 24, 1935 in Niles, California and died March 6, 2016 at the age of 80. Gene was a third-generation Californian and attended Washington High School in Centerville (now Fremont). He graduated from the UC Berkeley and played football under venerable coach Lynn "Pappy" Waldorf.
