In 2011, Joe retired from Washington State University after 44 years of employment at that institution. He finished as an assistant director in Classroom Media and Design. Joe worked under 4 WSU Presidents, all of whom he knew personally. He was responsible for 26 full time employees and 177 classrooms---keeping them up to date with cutting edge media equipment and designs. Joe traveled across the US visiting companies and media shows to keep current in the" best of the best" market designs for the University.
He had close to a million dollar budget to manage for his department and yearly kept it in the black---giving him commendations for excellent management.
Joe has received letters of recognition from Depatment Chairs, Alumni, WSU Facilty members, and the various WSU Presidents. It was his determination of excellence that won him favor from so many.
At one point, a military general met with Joe to discuss the "new on line" distant learning technologies for educational use. The general had heard of Joe's success with it in WSU classrooms and wanted to institute it in his branch of service.
Joe has seen technology grow from reel to reel audio tapes, film strip projectors and vacuum tubes to satelite comunication, computerized classrooms and digitized video for distribution---not to mention interactive tablets (IPads, etc).
Joe continues to remain in contact with colleagues, but now enjoys grandchildren and Rving.
