Carroll V. Kroeger

Class of 1943

Carroll Vincent Kroeger graduated from High School in Trenton, Missouri in 1943. He overcame Rheumatic Fever in High School, enlisted in the Navy V-5 flight Program and served on “Tarmac” duty
at Hutchinson, Kansas Naval Air Station. His class was transferred to the Navy V-12 College Program at
Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He graduated from the NROTC Unit at Rice University and was
commissioned Ensign USNR in 1946. He served as Damage Control Officer and later as Administrative and Personnel Officer aboard the USS Capricornus, AKA-57 during the Korean Conflict and received an honorable discharge as Lieutenant USNR in 1957.
He earned a BA in Mathematics and Physics and MBA at Vanderbilt University. He worked for a New York Management Consulting Company, establishing an international reputation in natural gas engineering, with assignments for Shell International and British Petroleum in New Zealand and later
in the Netherlands and the UK in joint ventures with Shell and Standard Oil of New Jersey. He was a member of multi-national teams that developed natural gas industries in; Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, New Zealand, the Netherlands and Spain. A Vice President of Esso Europe wrote; “Your valuable advise, assistance and creativity were key factors in helping to bring about a major expansion of the natural gas industry of Western Europe.” He held memberships in; the American Gas Association, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Association Technique du Gas in France, Deutcher von Gas und Wasserwerke Mannern in Germany, Chartered Engineer in the UK, Fellow of; the Institution of Gas Engineers, The Institute of Energy and the Institute of Directors in Britain. He presented papers at meetings of; the American Gas Association, the British Institution of Gas Engineers, Pembroke College at Oxford, the Deutcher von Gas und Wasserwerke Mannerin in Germany and a United Nations Symposium.
He served in Tennessee Governor Dunn’s Cabinet as Energy Advisor during the 1970’s Energy Crisis and helped develop some of the first energy conservation programs in the country. He earned tenure as an
Associate Professor of Business at Belmont University during the 1980’s, where he taught the capstone course in Business Policy and Corporate Strategy. Later at Tennessee State University he took the Nashville Business Incubation Center from concept to national recognition.
In 1990 he and his wife joined the RE/MAX International real estate group where he helped his wife
Grace become a member of the RE/MAX Hall of Fame and a charter member of the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council Hall of Fame. In 2001 they formed “Magnolia Realty Company” where he serves as co-owner and Secretary-Treasurer.
