What is Pierce H. Deamer Jr. (1907-1986) known for?

Pierce H. Deamer Jr. was a prominent American Republican Party politician, born on April 24, 1907, in New York City. He moved to Bergenfield, New Jersey in his youth and graduated from Tenafly High School and the New Jersey Law School. He was quite active in New Jersey's political scene, serving in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1952 to 1962, where he secured re-elections in 1953, 1955, 1957, and 1959. He later moved on to serve in the New Jersey Senate from 1962 to 1966.

Deamer had a rich career in law and public service. In addition to his political offices, he maintained law offices in Bergenfield, served as the Bergenfield Municipal Judge, Chairman of the Bergenfield Civil Defense, Municipal Attorney for Bergenfield and New Milford, and counsel to the Bergen County Sheriff from 1948 to 1951.

In 1961, he was elected to the New Jersey Senate, defeating Paramus Mayor Fred C. Galda with a significant lead of 160,125 votes to 124,492. However, in the 1965 Republican primary for State Senator, Deamer's run got off to a shaky start when he and former State Senator, Walter H. Jones, faced off in an election for Bergen County Republican Chairman. Despite losing this election to Jones, Deamer went on to run on an insurgent ticket with Assemblymen Richard Vander Plaat and Harry Randall Jr., and former Assemblyman Carmine Savino. Sadly, his strategy did not pay off as Jones' slate won decisively.

Outside of his political endeavors, Deamer had a fulfilling personal life. He married Agnes M. Churchill of Teaneck on January 4, 1939, and they had four children. Deamer passed away on June 12, 1986, in Bergenfield, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to the people of New Jersey.
