About Me	I'm a professor of English now, trying to write fewer academic articles and more articles for the layperson and publishing them. I had breast cancer eight years ago, and while I didn't have any epiphanies, as some do, nor did I change the primary directions of my life, I realized that life is short, unpredictable, and to be enjoyed and learned from, not "spent." I learned how important maintaining my friendships and other relationships is to me. Content with self, job, great friends, and a beloved dog and two ancient cats. Finding my way through life as much by drift as design; I let my mind and body wander, I read and write what I feel like, and I try to work on the design of my life thoughtfully. It's been mostly fun but sometimes painful, which I guess is the cost of being sensitive and pensive, trying to leave the world a little better for my being here--or at least easing the passage of some whose lives cross mine.
