Your Alma Mater Needs You, She's on Life Support

Before COVID, Sumner was dying a terminal death of neglect, apathy and just plain, "it ain't my problem" wilderness mentality. There was a time when this beloved school was globally admired and held its banner high. Our School has become the laughing stock of academia. I frankly don't see, nor do I share, the humor of this cold hard truth. As an Alum, it saddens me to see the decline of SHS and if you claim to be an alum, you should share the shame because we have failed the school, its legacy and the student who now attend it.
I urge you to join the effort to keep Sumner open, get involved with your class reunion committee and find out what you can do as a class to give back. The total student body is 200. There was a time when we had a student body of 2000!!
These students need you to help them in their academic studies. Please donate your time to mentoring, tutoring, planning or organizing in some civic, fraternal, social or religious organization that is designed to keep Sumner Alive. Somewhere, Somehow, Somebody helped you. Before we leave this life, do something that will live on that bears your contribution of time or talent.

Sumner Alumni Expertise

My name is Tiffany Davis and I work for the St. Louis Public Library. Our theme for Black History Month 2016 is Hallowed Grounds. Me and a few of my coworkers have chosen to do a program on Sumner High School, because it is one of many Hallowed Ground sites in St. Louis that is very important to Black History. As part of our program we would like for someone from your organization to come and speak at the program, providing a 5-10 minute overview on the history of Sumner.

Mr Willie Palmer, RIP

I recently learned Mr Palmer, my 5th grade teacher passed away last January. I got to visit with him at a nursing home. He was very knowledgeable on Black History.

Sunshine Law Request

At last night's SAB meeting Byron Clemens, VP, AFT St. Louis,
presented a request of Rick Sullivan of the SAB of information
regarding lead and asbestos contamination at Sumner.
Clemens had information that Sumner contains contaminants
more than 8 million times EPA's Air guidelines.
