Graduation Year Class of 1961
Date of Passing Oct 16, 2013
About I got a call from her granddaughter that my old friend Marilyn Wall (Class of 61)Saylor died of COPD a few days ago on Wednesday.

After staring and having a weep for an hour, I am sharing it with you. Marilyn and I went to Elementary to High School together and were close friends then, and in touch ever after. I last saw her at our last Suitland Class Reunion in Annapolis. She lived in South Carolina with her grandchildren in a lovely big house she was so proud of.

Time is a funny thing. Even though its one-way, I for one can visit back to the clearest memories of childhood and after. I remembered Marilyn for her wonderful laugh, smile, pretty hair, bobby socks and saddle shoes, and keen mind. She and I took piano lessons together (She was much better player!). We rode bicycles together. We spent lots of time at each other’s houses. I knew her family as my own. I remember climbing her yard’s trees. I remember having long talks about the future and life when it was all starry. I can see her mom and dad, dinner at her family table, watching Disneyland with them on their TV (we could not afford a TV then), and being amazed at their new dishwasher machine, the first I had ever seen.
I also remember disappointment when she married David ? (Class of 60) right after high school. I didn’t think he was good enough for her. Why do girl’s go for errant males?
I suppose I wept a bit also just for the old times of our youth that seemed a simpler world, but one full of magic and good feelings, too. Loosing someone close is something all of us surviving are starting to get used to or experienced at. It happens more and more. I remember the long list of more than a hundred Class of 1961 classmates, posted at our Reunion, dear old friends, that have gone. Recently Howard Tower, our Football Captain, and now missed by Jean Hawkins Tower who lives in Milford, a town nearby mine in Delaware, and who was also a childhood playmate in Parkland, Maryland, two streets away.

It seems impossible that so much time has passed so fast, especially carrying the past always fresh in our hearts and memories.

To all of you dear surviving classmates, all whom I remember in your fresh faced youth, and always will, God love you and keep you, I always will, too.
Marilyn Wall Saylor
