About	On April 18,2016 Joan departed this life to be with her savior surrounded by her friends and family in Jacksonville, Florida. Joan was born on December 8, 1956 in Baltimore, MD and was the daughter of the late Horace V. and E. Geraldine (nee Allen) Swann. She was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Grogg. She moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia when she was 10 years old and attended Stonewall Jackson High School in Mt. Jackson VA. She moved to the Washington DC area in 1974 to pursue a career as a Civil Servant in the US Government. She retired from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in 2012 and settled in Jacksonville, FL. She is survived by two sisters, April L. Whitmer - nee Allen (John), of Edinburg VA, and Carolyn J. Todd (Kenneth) of Triangle VA; three brothers, Charles E. Swann of Pensacola FL, Horace L. of Jacksonville FL and William D. (Anna) of Springfield, VA; half sister Mildred Schreiber of Towson, MD and a half brother Donald V. Swann of Hanover PA; her longtime companion, Stephen Taylor and her beloved aunt, Elsie Christine Daniel of Westminster, MD. Memorial services will be at a later date and inurnment will be in the Mt. Jackson Cemetery in Mt. Jackson, Virginia. Arrangements are being handled by Affordable Cremation Solutions of Jacksonville, FL.
