About MOLLY S YOWELL, Newton, MA, age 60, December 31, 2008

Molly died on New Year’s Eve 2008 after a brief but very courageous battle with triple negative breast cancer. She underwent aggressive treatment from the time of her diagnosis in April of 2008 until her death.

She accepted the challenge of illness just as she embraced all the new challenges in her life. Molly was a quiet, tireless adventurer who sailed, skydived, scuba dived in the Bahamas and sculled on the Charles River at the foot of her house. She enjoyed flying and obtained her private pilot’s license. From an early age Molly was an accomplished horseback rider. She always sought out life’s possibilities.

Molly was a single mother who raised her daughter, Somers, with love and constant concern for her welfare. Molly did not ski, but when Somers was ten, she decided they should be a skiing family and off to Vermont the two went each winter.

It was in Vermont that Molly met John, the love of her life. With him she took on a new challenge, fly fishing. Each fall they went off to the County in Maine to catch and release. In her final year Molly learned to knit; she planned to raise cashmere goats in Vermont with all that this endeavor entails. She had done all the research necessary to make her thoroughly prepared for this new challenge in retirement.

After graduating from Staples High School in Westport, CT, Molly attended Katharine Gibbs. She was one of those individuals who acquired information technology skills as the field itself was developing. Molly started as an administrative assistant to the President of Control Data Corporation in 1975. As she pursued her career, she continued her education at Pace College. She was at Computer Services Corporation from 1985-1996. She then joined Brown Brothers Harriman where she advanced through several positions. When she died, Molly was Vice President, Client Services & Outsourcing. She is survived by her daughter, Somers F. Killian, of Newton and longtime partner John Tsimortos also of Newton. She is also survived by her three sisters, one niece, three nephews and two grandnephews. A Memorial Service was held Monday, January 5th at 4PM in the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, Wallace Chapel, 207 Washington St. Wellesley Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, P O Box 204, Norwood, NJ 07648, www.tnbcfoundation.org or Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, 125 Nashua Street, Boston, MA. 02114, Attn: Development Office, www.spauldingrehab.org/donateonline.
