Joe Jurkenas

Class of 1970

With me and his classmates begging for a job at McDonald's, mild, quiet and shy, well manor-ed Joseph by day – became the simply charming, outgoing, mature, and and highly rated Joe Collins at night on Worcester's largest radio stations, WAAB and WAAF. Voted most likely to succeed, Joe went on to Boston's F105, WVBF. We just couldn’t keep from tuning in to hear about Joe's today's adventures that always felt like Joe was an observer to the slightly weird things that were happening around him. His style made us feel as if he's one of us – a listener that just by chance is behind the mike. I was crushed when I found out Joe moved to Maine in 1985 or 1984, was on Kiss 94 FM in Ellsworth, then went on to found 99.1 “Lucky 99” and 102.5 “The Coast”. Joe asked me for a date when we were in the twelfth grade. I told him “in your dreams!”. I didn’t mean it Joe! I didn’t know you were you! Why didn’t you tell me ? You should have told me! Then we graduated, and I never saw him again, but I sure listened and we all did. I'm still in love with him. Call me Joey! -Nancy-
