Favorite School Memory Back in the old days, before girls sports, there was only cheerleading for girls. I have my fondest memories with that special group and our sponsor Mrs. Sheets. We had great times at the games and always had tons of fun a cheerleading camp. We went to Maryville and to the University at Normal, IL. Terry Osborn's mother and Mrs. Sheets drove us there and I think they had aas much fun as we did. We were a close group and always tried to represent our school as best we could. We spend many hours several times per week learning pom pom routines for the half time at the games. I still continue with some of these frienships to day and can remember the name of everyone I cheered with as we yelled our names at the beginning of our hello cheet to the opposing team. I even keep in contact with some of the girls from the other schools and have had them remember me to my daughter as she was doing her student teaching, etc. Friendships can last a lifetime. We had a big pep squad which we bussed to every sport. Don't know how many belonged but many. The sports were football and basketball. Wrestling startetd when we were seniors; but I don't remember much about that sport. I can remember are skirt length was very important (just above the knee) and was checked frequently but I think Mrs. Sheets knew we rolled up are skirt bands when we could. She expected alot from us and it required a lot of time but it help to build our character and gave us leadership skills. Although I am to old to do a cheer or pom pom routine I still remember LETS GIVE ONE BIG FIGHT--do you? Getting to cheer on the dance program Let"s Dance on Channel 2 was also great fund. Karen Hatten's brother worked at the TV station and we thought we knew someone real impo...(read more)
