Dr. Seales was a graduate of Sharpstown High school class of 1995, coming from the New York City school system; he had to learn quickly how to deal with a new life in Texas. Carl was a special education student upon his arrival to Texas. This would be difficult for him to overcome and he did spend an extra year graduating high school. The culture was a challenge for him to get used at first and Carl was also responsible for taking care of his father who had heart problems. During Carl’s 93-94 school year he was working a fulltime at night job while going to school all while taking care of his father. In 1995 Dr. Seales graduated from Sharpstown and went on to Houston community college. In 1997 Dr. Seales graduated the North Harris college police academy and began a law enforcement career with the Kendleton police department in 1999. In November 2000 Carl’s father Dr. Carl A Seales Sr. passed away. Carl had decided to stay in Texas in order to “become a man” on his own right and went back to college completing his Associates degree in 2002; his Bachelor’s degree in 2003 and his masters degree in 2005. Dr. Seales then decided to peruse a PhD. And completed this accomplishment in September 2011. His dissertation “noncustodial strain and criminality: a phenomological study of fathers” was praised by his committee members in looking at issues that non custodial fathers face in the American court system. Dr. Seales is currently working as a police officer and a high school criminal justice instructor in the Houston area.
