What is Ted Philips (2001) known for?

Ted Philips, born in 1983, is an accomplished American politician and member of the Democratic Party. A native of Sharon, Massachusetts, Philips grew up in this community and graduated from Sharon High School in 2001. After high school, he pursued higher education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he studied political science. He later obtained an MPA from the Sawyer School of Business at Suffolk University.

Upon graduating, Philips began his political career by joining the Finance Committee for the town of Sharon. His career then took him to work for State Senator Stephen Brewer in 2006 and subsequently, to State Representative Louis Kafka's office as a legislative aide. By 2020, Philips had ascended to the role of staff director for Representative Kafka.

In December 2019, Philips announced his intention to succeed his mentor, retiring Representative Lou Kafka, in the Massachusetts General Court. His efforts were rewarded when he received several endorsements from 21 unions and notable members of the Massachusetts General Court, including Speaker Pro Tempore Patricia Haddad. Philips centered his campaign around improving public transportation, elder care, and economic development.

On September 1, 2020, Philips claimed victory in the Democratic Primary in the 8th Norfolk District. He ran unopposed in the general election on November 3, 2020, affirming his position as the Representative for the 8th Norfolk District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He was officially sworn into office on January 6, 2021.

Philips continues to serve his community, using his political platform to bring positive changes to the people of Massachusetts.
