John Brebbia

Professional baseball player

What is John Brebbia known for?

John Fulboam Brebbia, a notable alumni of Sharon High School in Sharon, Pennsylvania, is an accomplished professional baseball player. Born on May 30, 1990, in Boston, Massachusetts, Brebbia has since made a significant impact on the world of baseball.

Despite not graduating from Sharon High, he transferred to Wellington High School in Florida for his senior year, seeking to improve his chances at getting a college baseball scholarship. His potential was evident as he recorded a 10–1 win-loss record with a remarkably low earned run average (ERA) of 0.83. Not to mention, he recorded an 18-strikeout game during his time there.

Following his high school career, Brebbia attended Elon University in North Carolina, where he was a successful pitcher for the Elon Phoenix baseball team. In 2011, he won accolades as a First Team All-Southern Conference member. Incidentally, he had a promising summer with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Brebbia's professional career began when he was selected by the New York Yankees in the 30th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft. He made his Major League debut in 2017 for the St. Louis Cardinals. Throughout the 2023 season, he achieved an admirable win-loss record of 15-15, an earned run average (ERA) of 3.42, and had struck out 321 batters. His career saw him play for the St. Louis Cardinals from 2017 to 2019, and later for the San Francisco Giants from 2021 to 2023.

In addition to his achievement in MLB, Brebbia also spent time playing for various other teams. After being released by the Yankees in 2013, he signed with the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball in 2014. Here, he maintained a respectable track record with a 3–2 record, one save, and a 3.31 ERA, while striking out 10.5 batters per nine innings, which was the fifth best in the league. Later, he was traded to the Laredo Lemurs.

In conclusion, John Brebbia, even with a switch of schools in his early years, has made a significant name in baseball. From his humble beginnings in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to playing in the Major League, his journey has been nothing short of inspiring. More about his career can be found here.
