My parents divorced when I was 5 years old. My mother took my youngest sibling to raise off and on, but neither of our parents wanted to raise us older 4. ~<>~<>~<>~ *** My * Great-Aunt SARAH "SADIE" ELLEN (LOSURE) STATON {my mother's aunt}, was 67 years old at the time when she took us, and nearly blind, to keep us from being put into an orphans home, took the remaining four of us to raise. Raised us on her old age pension and comodities until we had all left "the nest". ~ We were extremely poor, but we were cared for and loved.~ *** After all of us were on our own, AUNT SADE died in her sleep at age 84, on July 18, 1962. The headstone we put on her grave includes the words, "OUR OTHER MOTHER" , and she was. ~<>~ * I was a career Air Force policeman .... retired on June 30, 1977 with 20 years service (including 2 years in Vietnam.... 1965-1966 and 1968-1969.... August to August both times). * I received a BAAS degree in Criminal Justice from Southwest Texas State University (1979).. it changed to Texas State University ~ San Marcos in 2003. * In May 1980 I took a position as a police officer (Sgt) in northeast Iowa, where I worked for 3 years. * In April 1983 I was hired as the Chief of Police in Carlisle, Iowa .. small suburb of Des Moines ( southeast corner ). * I retired June 30, 1999 after 16 years as Chief of the Carlisle Police Department, with a total of 19 years as a civilian policeman. * On Feb. 29, 2002 I became a "triple dipper" ( 3 retirements), when at age 62, I retired under Social Security also. .<>.<>.<>.<>.<>.<>. ~<>~ LUCILLE "LUCY" MAE BUCK~HARDY ~<>~ * My wife, LUCILLE M.( BUCK ) HARDY was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. * I met LUCY in San Antonio, Texas on May 12, 1976. * Short courtship, we married Aug. 7, 1976. * In 1980 we moved to Iowa, due to my employment. * LUCY has a BA degree in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa {1983} and * a Law degree from the Law School at the University of Iowa (1986). * LUCY passed the Iowa Bar in June 1986 on her first attempt. * LUCY was an Assistant Iowa Attorney General for 20 years. She retired June 15, 2006. She still holds her attorney credentials and license for * Iowa, and was sworn in {2010} to the * Texas Bar and licensed to practice in Texas too, if she chooses to. ============================= * Our sons CHRIS, GLENN, and GLENN's wife DENISE are Des Moines Police Department Officers. ~<>~ CHRIS is Patrol Lieutenant . Chris has a Bachelor Degree. ~<>~ * GLENN {Russell Glenn} is Lieutenant over the DMPD Bomb Squad and DMPD Tactical Unit. Glenn has a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice. ~<>~ * DENISE is a Senior Police Officer in the Detective Division. * DENISE has a Bachelor Degree in Business Management and an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. ~<>~ ~<>~<>~ * Our daughter TERRI is employed by the Missouri State Department of Human Services in St. Louis, Missouri. * TERRI has BS degrees in Psychology and Sociology, with a minor in Criminal Justice from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri. ~<>~<>~ * Our daughter DANIELLE's husband JUSTIN NELSON has a BS Degree in Political Science from Iowa State University. * JUSTIN received his Law Degree from Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan on May 22, 2004. He passed the Iowa Bar Exam in July 2004. * Justin was an Assistant Iowa Attorney General. * Justin is now an Assistant Alaska Attorney General based at Fairbanks, Alaska. ~<>~<>~ * Our daughter DANIELLE "DEE" graduated from Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, Iowa, in Dec. 2007, with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology. * Dee then worked as an Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor in Spencer, Iowa, for a year and a half. * In March 2009, DANIELLE received a 5 year scholarship for a PhD Program in clinical psychology from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, Alaska. She will get her Masters { in May 2012}, PhD and do internship there. ~<>~<>~ * Our youngest daughter TRACIE, graduated from Carlisle (IA) High School early.. Dec. 21, 2007. Honor Roll student. * TRACIE started college January 8th, 2008 at Iowa Lakes Community College, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, for a nursing degree. * TRACIE received her RN {registered nurse) in Dec. 2011. * TRACIE was hired as an RN at the Spencer, Iowa Hospital in Jan. 2012. ~<>~ * Our oldest (born 1978) grandchild MANDY's husband EDDIE HONEA was an Atlanta, Georgia Police Officer from 1999 to late 2004, when he became a Henry County Police Department(Georgia) Police Officer. ~<>~ Grandson BRANDON HONEA {EDDIE's son} graduated Police Academy in Georgia, on 5/10/2012. He is an officer on the Gwinnette County Police Department, Georgia. ~<>~ * My Great-Great-Grandfather CHARLES FRANKLIN HARDY {1807~1870} was a judge, county commissioner and school inspection board member in the Austin, Minnesota area mid-1850's thru 1870. * Judge HARDY attended Harvard College before moving West from Massachusetts. ~<>~ * My 5th-Great-Grandfather PHINEAS HARDY was one of the Minutemen at the "Old North Bridge" in Concord, Massachussets, in April 1775. They turned back the British troops (Paul REVERE's Ride). ~<>~ * My 8th-Great-Grandfather THOMAS HARDY came to the "new world" in 1630. Including Tracie Anne HARDY, Lucy's niece from San Antonio, Texas, whose adoption by us was finalized on Dec. 31, 2001.
