About David Ellis Harmon, 72, of Machesney Park, IL, passed
away on Sunday, August 20, 2012. He was born on
March 11, 1951 to Kenneth Charles Harmon and Opal
Lorraine (Amos) Harmon. Married the former Terri
Greenawald on April 9, 1983, in Forreston, IL. He
graduated from Rochelle Township High School in
1969 also took some courses at Kishwaukee Junior
College. Dave was a lifetime salesman, spending most
of his career selling into the agriculture industry, working
for a variety of companies. Utilizing his strengths in
agriculture, he created and patented an agricultural
instrument. In 2003, Dave and his wife Terri bought
and ran the Trail Stop Ice Cream Shop in Poplar Grove,
IL. As owner and operator of the Trail Stop, this was his
favorite job. Dave then went on to work for Hines Farms
before finally retiring.
As a young man, Dave played interscholastic grade
school basketball, played softball with the local 4-H club,
and played on his high school football and basketball
teams. As a young adult, Dave bowled in a county
bowling league. His mom organized monthly potlucks
with her cousins, where they all ate together and then
afterward Dave and family played hours of competitive
Pinochle games. Dave loved fishing, playing recreational
softball and golf, and in his later years loved
attending football games. Dave was an avid Chicago
Bears fan and a Chicago Cubs fan.
In 1983 he joined the Harlem-Roscoe Volunteer Fire
Dept., first as a Fireman, then an Emergency Medical
Technician, then as their Captain of Station 2. He left the
fire department in 2000 for medical reasons. In 1984, he
became a Charter member of the Machesney Park
Planning Commission, and years later became Chairman
of that board. Dave served on the board until 2017, when
he also had to leave for medical reasons.
Dave was very active in his retirement years. He loved
traveling with his wife Terri across the country in their
motorhome, and wintering in Florida with her, and with
their very special camping buddies, Gary and Char.
When home in the summertime, Dave enjoyed spending
time working on his daughter Tracey and her husband
Paul’s farm. He helped transport cattle, gave his time
during planting and picking seasons and offered a hand
with other various farm chores to stay active. Dave loved
the sunshine and doing things where he could be
outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Terri Ann Harmon; children,

Kristine (Michael Winemiller) Harmon of Collierville, TN,
