About Donald Cheney Obituary
PEORIA - Donald George Cheney, formerly from Peoria, Ill., passed away at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at his home in DeBary, Fla.

He was born on May 5, 1956, in Peoria, the son of George and Georgia (Miller) Cheney. He married Donna Davis from Marion, Ill., on Aug. 5, 1978. She survives.

He is survived by their daughter, Ashleigh (Cheney) Hart, her husband, Joe, and three wonderful grandsons, Jarrett Anthony, Matthew Joseph and Joshua James, also from DeBary, Fla. Don also is survived by his mother, Georgia; brothers, Greg of Rockford and Doug of Peoria; and sister, Laura Krause of Charleston, S.C.

Don graduated in 1974 from Richwoods High School, where he served as class president his junior and senior years.

He served four years in the Marine Corps Reserves.

He received his B.S. degree in law enforcement from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1978.

Don was an ordained deacon at Bethel Baptist Church in Troy, Ill., Meadow Heights Baptist in Collinsville and Woodland Baptist in Peoria, where he also taught Sunday school for many years.

His belief in Jesus Christ was evident in his everyday walk and he shared his love for God in many ways.

Don was a financial consultant for 13 years with Smith Barney in Peoria. After moving to Florida, he was a business consultant in industrial sales. Don was a creative, high-caliber, versatile executive in building and leading highly profitable, top-performing businesses in the public and private sector.

Don's sense of humor, contagious smile, encouraging words, and wisdom and love for friends and family will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Charter Oak Bible Church, 5910 W. Charter Oak Road in Peoria

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the ALS Society.
