Encourage and Motivate Classmates
There will be apprehensive classmates questioning whether or not they want to attend the reunion. There are different ways to motivate and encourage these classmates to participate in the event, so they don't regret missing out:
• Copy received RSVPs to the class page. This will let other classmates know who is attending, which will motivate more classmates to attend and send their RSVPs in.
• Post stories during your class years, which will trigger classmates' memories into becoming nostalgic.
• Communicate individually with classmates that may seem wary to attend the event.
• Post inspirational quotes about friendship, relationships, etc.
• Share photos, which acts as an icebreaker in reassuring aging classmates that they are not alone in losing their youthful appearance.
Classmates will not attend sometimes because they presume the reunion is a time for bragging about what you've accomplished or done since graduation, and don't desire putting themselves in that situation. Committee members need to keep this in mind and promote the reunion as a welcoming event for everyone.
Tell classmates not worry about their appearance and/or whether or not people will remember them. Everyone has aged and do not look the way they did in high school. The reunion is not a time for comparing and competition with others; it is a time to reunite old friendships. Here are some helpful hints to rid classmates of unnecessary worries:
• Go to the reunion with a positive attitude.
• Take pride in who you are.
• Go to the event with other classmates.
• Dress comfortably for the occasion.
