Joel Mitre, class of 1987

Joel was recented inducted to the University of Redlands Athletic Hall of Fame (http://www.redlands.edu/4103.asp). As the article reads "Mitre brings a unique athletic resume to the Class of 2009 as his career was broken up by active duty in the U.S. Army. In 1993, he won the SCIAC Championship and became the national champion in the high jump. After a two-year hiatus from competition, Mitre returned to the University of Redlands and captured another national championship. In addition, he established a school record and won the Cal-Nevada title in the high jump." A two-time national champion, Joel learned the fundamentals of high achievement at RHS. While a student at RHS, he was an elected officer of the RHS Future Business Leaders of America Club, played on the JV and Varsity Basketball Team, and started his successes in the high jump (Cant remember if he won CIF or just CBL). After RHS, and in addition to his successes in the field, Joel also managed to serve in the US Army during Operation Desert Shield. He retired and was working at the Redlands YMCA until about 2000, when he reenlisted in the military; this time as an officer for our US Air Force.
