About	George Stanley (Stan) McCall February 21, 1934 – June 12, 2021 Stan went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 10:55 p.m. He was born in Fort Lauderdale, FL to George Hobson and Willie Mae (Mikell) McCall. He met Joyce, his high school sweetheart, at Pompano Beach High School. At Pompano, Stan was a multi-sport athlete. Stan and Joyce were married on June 10, 1956 and lived in Pompano Beach and Lighthouse Point, FL before moving to Umatilla, FL in 1997. Stan loved football, especially Mississippi State University (MSU) Football. He attended MSU from 1952 to 1956 under a full athletic scholarship. Stan also played fast-pitch softball and was an excellent semi-pro pitcher. In 1974, he pitched in an exhibition game against the King and His Court. Upon graduation from MSU, Stan returned home and began his teaching career at Rogers Junior High School in Fort Lauderdale. While there, he taught and coached football, winning the Broward County Championship three years in a row. He also worked at the Post Office, using the extra money to pay for his master’s degree from Ithaca College in New York. In 1959, Stan started working at his alma mater, Pompano Beach High School, where he taught history, coached football and was an athletic trainer. In 1969, he accepted a position in administration for Broward County Schools. Over the years he held a number of positions where he excelled and was promoted. Stan retired in 1994 as the Director of Operations, leading the Transportation, Maintenance, and Food Services departments for the school system. Stan loved his family and in retirement spent a lot of time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and Joyce loved to travel worldwide and spend summers in Maggie Valley and Lake Junaluska, NC. As an MSU M-Club Member, he and Joyce often traveled to Mississippi State for football games and alumni events. During his retirement, Stan loved to volunteer to help others. At both Umatilla and Tavares High Schools, he volunteered as a pitching coach for girls fast pitch softball. At the annual Bear Festival in Umatilla, Stan would be seen in the Lyon’s Club booth deep-frying hotdogs to raise money for the charity. Stan and Joyce were active members of First Baptist Church of Umatilla, including The Seekers Life Group, and went on several mission trips to build churches. Stan is survived by his three children: Luann (Mike) McCutcheon, Clark (Debra) McCall, and Andrea (Ed) Kessler; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Kelly and Mark (Jen) McCutcheon and sons, Jack and Will; Ryan and his daughter, Sawyer; Whitney (Greg) Hierro and Kylee McCall; Hayley, Shelby, Payge and Payton Kessler. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Joyce (Rozler), his brother James and two sisters Ina Claire Martin and Mary V. Mitchum. A visitation will be held at Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home in Eustis, Florida on Friday, June 18th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Umatilla, FL on Saturday, June 19th at 1:30 pm. A graveside service will follow.
