Gary Dyer

Class of 1969

I was very lucky, at the age of 21, I was literally scooped up in San Diego by a Sea Stallion Helo.

Then flown out to 300 miles out of San Diego Harbor.

Then dropped on the flight deck of the US ENTERPRISE AIR CRAFT CARRIER.

T Western Pacific Fleet was on a 8 mth return voyage in the Asian Pacific Sea, basically, all 14 vessels were returning BK from a War voyage.

There were over 5000 sea mem and women on that cruise.

Basically the TOP GUN FLIGHT DECK.

Yep, sat in THE AIR BOSSES CHAIR. Yes, that person writing on that glass wall, went to school, just to write backwards.

I got to watch night ops, touch and goes, full throttle F 14 TOM CATS, hit the after burners for about 3 hrs. WOW, WHAT A RUSH.

I was assigned an escort. That person was Tim Taylor.

He graduated PHS in 1968 in .y sister CHERIE DYERS class.

In fact, I met a number of PHS graduates on the US ENTERPRISE.

WOW, that was a rush as well.

Sooooo, after the 8 month cruise, the entire battle group of 14 Captains come aboard the ENTERPRISE for the last CAPTAINS MESS DINNER.

I sat next to the ENTERPRIZES CAPTAIN.

We got to talking, he invited me to his cabin for a night cap and he wanted to know " WHAT THE ANERICAN YOUTH THOUGHT ABOUT THE VIETNAM WAR EFFORTS.
I said " YES SIR CAPTAIN "

NOT!!!!! ARE U CRAZY. I WILL TAKE A BULLET OR MANY FOR THIS COUNTRY, BUT NO WAY AM I GOING TO HIS CABIN TO DISCUSS WAR AND WHAT WE YOUTHFUL PEOPLE THOUGHT ABOUT IT, THKS, BUT NO THKS.

SOOOOOOOO, I ditched him, but had to salute him the next am, when we docked at NORTH ISLAND NAVAL BASE ON CORONADO ISLAND IN SAN DIEGO HARBOR.

THAT was a real bummer to whistle PASSED that DUDE, AS I left the ship onto the dock.
WHEWWWW!!!
SOOO, HERE IS THE RITTLE.

HOW DID I DO THAT.

I was not in the navy or military service.

HUMMMM!!!!!!!!!
