Jay and I became good friends in our freshman year at PHS. He was always friendly and kind and a good listener. And he was REALLY smart. I wondered why he would want to have me as a friend. We had German together in Mr. Aronstein's class, and he was always at the top of the class and probably at the top of every class. He and Paul Kohler were probably the two smartest guys in our class of '63. He lived in Desert View Highlands in a beautiful home, and I lived in Acton in less than a beautiful home. I was so happy to come to his house the first time and saw that he had a step-down living room. That really impressed me.

Jay and I continued to be friends and even became better friends after HS. Carol (Spears) and I were at his wedding to Joan, and the 4 of us later did fun things together. Usually Carol and I drove to their house in Navoto but a few times they came to our house in Stockton (I was teaching at the University of the Pacific and Carol was a Recovery Room nurse at a large hospital).

I always considered Jay one of my best lifelong friends—and I really miss him. Carol and I last got together with Jay and Maureen (his second wife) for lunch in February 2023. We just wanted to stay in touch. Jay was one of the best people I have ever known.

Rest in peace old friend. :'(
