Deworski Odom

Sprinter

What is Deworski Odom known for?

Deworski Odom, born April 11, 1977 in Cordele, Georgia, is an accomplished American sprinter. He specialized in 100 metres, earning his first significant recognition at the age of 17 when he earned a bronze medal at the 1994 World Junior Championships. He notably surpassed Henry Thomas's World Youth Best over the 100 meter distance.

Odom moved to Philadelphia with his family when he was 4, and it was there that his passion for running was kindled as a sixth-grader at Shoemaker Middle School. His later years at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia brought further accolades. During the 1995 National Scholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships in Syracuse, New York, Odom set three national records.

Despite his notable success in track and field, academic barriers kept him from attending many of the major track programs that recruited him. He ultimately attended Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Alabama, and St. Augustine's University in Raleigh, North Carolina for one season before turning professional.

As of 2017, Odom has returned to his alma mater, Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, where he serves as a track and field coach, contributing to the development of the next generation of athletes.
