What is Bryshere Y. Gray known for?

Bryshere Y. Gray, also known by his stage name Yazz the Greatest or simply Yazz, is an accomplished American actor and rapper, born on November 28, 1993 in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His claim to fame is his excellent portrayal of Hakeem Lyon in the popular Fox drama TV series Empire.

Besides his work on Empire, Gray is also celebrated for his portrayal of Michael Bivins in the 2017 BET miniseries, The New Edition Story. Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Bryshere shifted his focus to music after an injury during his high school years at Overbrook High School, utilizing his talent as a street performer to assist his single mother with costs.

Gray's music career also holds significant accomplishment. He has performed at a variety of music festivals in the Philadelphia area, including Jay Z's Made in America Festival, The Roots' Picnic Festival and Power 99FM's Powerhouse concert. He's even been an opening act for famous rappers such as Fabolous and 2 Chainz. His debut single "Respect" was released in 2013. In 2015, he began his acting career with Empire and was signed on with Columbia Records as a solo act.

Over the years, he's taken on various roles and additions to his acting portfolio, including his part in Honey: Rise Up and Dance as Tyrell in 2018. Despite the fame and success, Gray's personal life has seen some turbulence, including a run-in with the law in 2020.
